Well here we are, post two of the great blogenning* reboot, and already my plans are coming back to bite me. You see, late last night, after failing to meet the terms of the agreement on the very first go (more on that here), one Belynda Cianci of Dimestore Romance, turned around and double posted on us.
Now, I’m all for being playfully sneaky and evil to my friends, but one would hope for a prompt first post before twisting the knife with a second. Where Belynda should be begging our forgiveness, she has the unmitigated gall to throw it back in our faces.
This is why I like her.
In the spirit of her second post, I too am going to bless you with a list of 5 things, but in my case, they will be 5 things I really want you to know about today. Here we go:
- Boston Zed Heads is officially back, and we’re moving! That’s right, you heard it here first. In looking towards the future of where I’d like it to go, it makes the most sense to abandon blogger and move the whole operation over to WordPress.com. WordPress simply offers more features, and I find their back-end cleaner and simpler. Since the hope is that Boston Zed Heads will be around long enough, and be popular enough, to someday warrant moving it to its own hosting with its own domain, moving the posts in to wordpress now where they can be exported and re-imported on a privately hosted wordpress install just seems to make sense. What really matters for you now is that Ian and I are back to writing for it regularly, that Jaco has some of his own posts for it in the works, and that the new address going forward will be http://bostonzedheads.wordpress.com. (There will be a post to zed heads later in the week with all of this information as well.)
- Google announced the Chrome OS today. Google has been talking about building an OS for years, and their work in the area seemed to transition and then end in their work on Android. Granting that Android is designed to work on many different devices aside from smartphones, it is still very much a mobile OS, and if we’re talking about that market, I’m personally sticking by the iPhone for the time being. Chrome OS, however, is designed to be for people who do most of their work on the web, and seems directed at capturing the interest of netbook owners foremost. The goal seems to be to build a fast and lightweight (and free!) operating system in every way. My one concern is whether they’ll bundle in the grub bootloader to make an easy solution for dual booting. It doesn’t seem like the Chrome OS will be feature rich enough to get me to completely uninstall windows from my netbook (since it’s currently my only portable computer, I still need the added flexibility of being able to run things like Visual Studio), but I can certainly see myself booting in to it the majority of the time.
- Tom Quinn is a sociopathic narcissist whose thinly veiled contempt is merely a futile attempt at redirecting his own much deserved self-loathing. Also, he kills unicorns for sport.
- I realize I rarely talk about the rest of my website here, mostly since nothing huge ever really happens outside of this blog, but I’m getting very close to finally finishing up the music section over there. This is a section I’ve been trying to put together for about 5 years, but never seem to find the time or motivation for. Part of this was just general indecisiveness on my part as to the overall design and content. I still have a bunch of work to do on the main page, but I’ve finally finished putting together a page about my high school band “The Defenestrators” and about the vintage Ampeg by Burns of London guitar I own. The plan is to finish off the main page with information about my instruments and setup, and an overview of my projects, and then to make it live. I’m hoping to get this up in the next couple of weeks.
- I’ve been remiss in my duties of talking about good new albums that have come out, so, here’s a short list you should take a look at: The Mars Volta - Octahedron, Eric Clapton & Steve Winwood – Live from Madison Square Garden, and Street Sweeper Social Club
With that, my short lunch break at work has come to an end, and I need to dive back in to some code.
- B
* For those of you still wondering about this, it’s an homage to that fantastically twisted Nickelodeon cartoon “Invader Zim”.
